On November 7, 2023, the China Liaison Office of the United Nations Global Compact organized a "Global Compact Night" exchange event. Representatives from local networks across the Asia-Pacific region engaged in face-to-face discussions with over 60 representatives from businesses participating in the UN Global Compact in China. They explored how joining the UN Global Compact, sharing best practices, and participating in projects can enhance collaboration with other businesses and stakeholders, collectively advancing the achievement of sustainable development goals.
Through interaction and exchange, the UN Global Compact participating companies in China have established meaningful connections with the UN Global Compact's local representatives in the Asia-Pacific region, providing valuable opportunities to build stronger partnerships. Our CEO Mr Qu Weifeng was also invited to participate in this event.

Ms. Liu Meng, the Asia-Pacific Regional Representative of the United Nations Global Compact, delivered a welcome speech. Mr. Ole Lund Hansen, the Director of Global Operations of the United Nations Global Compact, and Mr. Dan Thomas, the Director of Communications and Strategic Engagement, both gave speeches encouraging participating companies from China to strengthen their communication on sustainable development in the global market and actively collaborate with various local networks of the United Nations Global Compact.
Mr. Yang Zhao, the Executive Deputy District Mayor of Pudong New District in Shanghai, attended the exchange meeting. He expressed that the United Nations Global Compact is committed to promoting corporate sustainable development, calling on businesses to adhere to internationally recognized values and principles. He noted that this effort has played a positive role in establishing Pudong as a leading area for socialist modernization and in creating an excellent business environment. Additionally, he welcomed more participating companies from the United Nations Global Compact to develop their businesses in Pudong New District.
The United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) is the world's largest international organization promoting corporate social responsibility and sustainable development, with over 20,000 business and non-business members from more than 170 countries. These members commit to uphold the ten principles of the Global Compact, which are based on United Nations agreements covering areas of human rights, labor standards, environment, and anti-corruption, and they report on their progress annually.
The mission of the United Nations Global Compact is to mobilize sustainable businesses and stakeholders globally to create the world we wish to see. The organization believes that business is a force for good. By committing to sustainable development, businesses can share the responsibility of creating a better world.
Ten Basic Principles of UNGC
The ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact are derived from key documents, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Labour Organization's Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
On June 24, 2004, during the first United Nations Global Compact Leaders Summit, then-Secretary-General Kofi Annan announced that the principles against corruption, stemming from the United Nations Convention Against Corruption which came into effect in 2003, were officially recognized as the 10th principle of the Global Compact.
Principle 1: Businesses should respect and protect internationally recognized human rights.
Principle 2: Businesses should ensure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.
Principle 4: Businesses should eliminate all forms of forced and compulsory labor.
Principle 5: Businesses should work towards the abolition of child labor.
Principle 6: Businesses should eliminate discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
Principle 7: Businesses should take a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.
Principle 8: Businesses should undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.
Principle 9: Businesses should encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.
Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
