On November 30, 2023, COP28 (the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties) had officially take place at Expo City in Dubai, UAE, lasting for two weeks.

As one of the most important climate summits in the world, the United Nations collaborates with stakeholders from around the globe to discuss various related topics.

Faced with the challenges and difficulties of global corporate Scope 3 emissions reduction, this presentation will share insights from three perspectives: an analysis of trends in professional carbon reduction service organizations, an accelerated incubation platform for carbon reduction services based on the Internet, and an innovative action plan for a just transition that empowers individuals. The goal is to stimulate in-depth discussions and exchanges among enterprises, service organizations, NGOs, and research institutions present at the event, exploring how to better utilize innovative Internet technologies to enhance the capabilities of supply chain personnel, as well as how to promote multi-party collaboration in Scope 3 emissions reduction.

On December 5th, the "Enterprise Supply Chain Carbon Reduction Acceleration and Empowerment Sharing and Exchange Conference," co-hosted by C Team, Tencent Sustainable Social Value Division, and China Automotive Carbon (Beijing) Digital Technology Center Co., Ltd., was held in Dubai, with an online live broadcast simultaneously.

Representatives from enterprises, research institutions, and NGO partners was invited to participate in this sharing and exchange meeting. Participants from McKinsey, Longi Green Energy, Carbon Block, Energy Chain Intelligence, Cornell University, Vanke Public Welfare Foundation, the Economic Guide for Sustainable Development, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and other organizations had discuss innovative solutions for reducing carbon emissions in enterprise supply chains and enhancing sustainability efforts. Leverage was also invited to join the meeting online.

This meeting was chaired by Liu Yifeng, deputy director of the C Team. At the beginning of the meeting, Yang Peidan, director of C Team first gave an opening speech. Director Yang emphasized that enterprises play a crucial role in achieving the "dual carbon" goals. Over the years, the C Team has consistently focused on empowering businesses to address climate change, unlocking their potential for carbon reduction, and driving the realization of "dual carbon" objectives at the enterprise level.

Following that, three sharing sessions were held. The first session featured Sun Zinc, the chief expert from the China Automotive Technology Research Center, who presented an analysis of the key points, trends, exemplary solutions, and future demands for supply chain services from the perspective of the automotive industry. She pointed out that collecting carbon emission data within the automotive industry supply chain faces several challenges, including difficulties in collaboration, low willingness to cooperate, insufficient supplier capacity, and challenges in traceability management. "To address these issues, we provide training to companies and guide the entire industry toward better collaboration," she added.

Subsequently, Wang Weikang, a senior expert from Tencent's Sustainable Social Value Division, shared Tencent's goals and its role in empowering supply chains through internet innovation and technology. During her presentation, she noted that digital applications are not widely utilized in the operations of domestic NGOs. She expressed appreciation for the C Team's efforts to explore and experiment in this area and expressed hope that more partners would join them in the future.

Subsequently, Wang Weikang, a senior expert from Tencent's Sustainable Social Value Division, shared Tencent's goals and its role in empowering supply chains through internet innovation and technology. During her presentation, she noted that digital applications are not widely utilized in the operations of domestic NGOs. She expressed appreciation for the C Team's efforts to explore and experiment in this area and expressed hope that more partners would join them in the future.

Finally, Director Yang Peidan, on behalf of C Team, introduced an innovative action plan for empowering supply chains to facilitate the fair transformation of enterprise operations. She highlighted the challenges in reducing carbon emissions across the supply chain, including complexities in multiple fields, numerous links, and high personnel empowerment costs. In response, the C Team has proposed an action plan focused on dual carbon empowerment for both supply chain and value chain partners. This plan aims to effectively enhance the overall carbon reduction capacity of enterprises while helping them achieve their dual carbon goals more swiftly and improve their ESG performance.

At the conclusion of the guest speeches, an open discussion took place to address the needs, challenges, suggestions, innovative ideas, and collaborative actions required to reduce carbon emissions within the supply chain. Attendees actively participated, sharing their perspectives from various industry sectors, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere.

Liu Yifeng concluded by stating that emissions reduction in industrial parks is essential for reducing pollution and carbon emissions across the entire industry. Some parks in China are already taking proactive steps in this regard. The Keqiao National Economic and Technological Development Zone in Shaoxing has accumulated a wealth of practical experience worth learning from in the fields of energy conservation, emissions reduction, and green development in the printing and dyeing industry. "Before heading to Dubai, I discussed the future of low-carbon green development with the leaders of the Keqiao Development Zone. They are planning to further align with international advanced experiences to promote green development in China's printing and dyeing industry during the new round of low-carbon green development."

At the end of the meeting, Trevor Harbison, Tai Fautanu, Zulfirman Rahyantel, and Domenic Varma from Dr. Xu Yuxin's team at Cornell University shared the role of climate-friendly investments in promoting emissions reduction within corporate supply chains. Based on their research, they presented two case studies of companies that successfully secured climate-friendly investments, aiming to inspire thoughts on how to obtain such investments while designing innovative projects.
