2023 Quality Certification Conference for Re-evaluation of Domestic and International Dual Circulation

On April 12, 2024, Leverage participated in the 2023 Quality Certification Review Meeting for Domestic and International Dual Circulation, with the ILO SCORE Corporate Sustainability Program. The event was organized by the Shanghai Municipal Administration for Market Regulation and hosted by the Shanghai Association for Inspection, Testing, and Certification which took place at the Hongyun Building on Wuning Road, Putuo District. This meeting was chaired by Yao Yingtao, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Association for Inspection, Testing, and Certification. Fang Jibing, Deputy Director of the Certification Division of the Shanghai Municipal Administration for Market Regulation, and Wu Yanling, a Level-4 Researcher at the same division, attended the meeting. Our CEO Mr. Qu Weifeng was invited to attend the meeting and participated in the case study roadshow and presentation on-site as the Chief Consultant of the Leverage ILO SCORE Project.

Previously, in accordance with the “14th Five-Year Plan for Certification, Accreditation, and Inspection Development” (National Market Regulation Certification Document No. 69, 2022) issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation, the Shanghai Municipal Administration for Market Regulation launched the "2023 Quality Certification for Domestic and International Dual Circulation Case Collection" initiative. This was aimed at summarizing and sharing successful experiences in quality certification that support domestic and international dual circulation, further highlighting exemplary cases, and promoting the high-quality development of quality certification work. Leverage participated in the event with our ILO SCORE Corporate Sustainability Program and successfully made it to the final selection. At the meeting, Mr. Qu Weifeng, CEO of Leverage, represented the company and gave a detailed report to the expert panel. He shared the implementation details and outcomes of the SCORE Corporate Sustainability Program, launched by GILDAN Group with the support of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in 2022, focusing on its suppliers.

Leverage's Entry: ILO SCORE Corporate Sustainability Program

The SCORE Corporate Sustainability Program is a management training and consulting initiative developed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to help companies improve workplace practices.

Background and Significance

In August 2022, driven by Leverage and with the support of the International Labour Organization (ILO), GILDAN Group officially launched the SCORE Corporate Sustainability Program for its suppliers. The program aims to promote responsible practices and sustainable development among its suppliers.

Based on the needs of the business, Leverage worked with GILDAN to select the "Workplace Cooperation" and "Gender Equality" modules of the SCORE program. Nine supplier companies were chosen to participate in the project, located in China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Turkey, and Pakistan. The implementation of the SCORE program in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, such as Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Turkey, can effectively enhance the overall strength and sustainability of local businesses.

Main approach

According to the technical procedures of the SCORE program, the project officially entered the implementation phase after the launch meeting in August 2022. Each company received module-based classroom training, baseline assessments, and three on-site coaching sessions. During the training, SCORE instructors provided in-depth explanations of the Workplace Cooperation and Gender Equality modules, along with case studies of exemplary companies, helping businesses understand the importance of these practices for their success. They also assisted companies in analyzing their current situations and setting relevant goals.

During the baseline assessment, consultants conducted meetings, employee interviews, and on-site visits to production areas to help companies assess their current status and identify areas for improvement. They also provided detailed explanations on how to use the SCORE program tools, laying a solid foundation for the implementation of the project.

Throughout the on-site coaching sessions, Leverage's consultants used employee interviews, on-site visits, and meetings to identify improvements and areas requiring further attention in the project process, helping companies better implement the SCORE program and achieve tangible results.

Work effectiveness

Through the implementation of the project, the employees involved in the project showed great enthusiasm and received strong support from the company leadership. The company achieved significant results, specifically reflected in the following aspects:

  • Establishment of the SCORE Improvement Culture - Workplace cooperation, with over 500 rational suggestions received.

  • Improvement of Workplace Fairness, Transparency, and Non-discrimination - Raised awareness of gender equality, released over 30 supportive gender equality-related policy documents, and on average, 1.9% of female employees received promotions.

  • Increase in Employee Satisfaction - Employee satisfaction increased to an average of 86%.

  • Visible and Comparable Improvements - The improvements made by the company were clearly visible and could be compared.

  • Change in Corporate Awareness - Positive changes in the awareness of the participating enterprises.

  • Successful Project Acceptance - The project was successfully accepted and disclosed on the ILO (International Labour Organization) website. The results show that the workplace implementing the SCORE program experienced concrete improvements in workplace safety and production efficiency. 

Additionally, it strengthened mutual trust between employees and management, boosted the company's reputation and appreciation from brand clients, and enhanced its tangible market competitiveness.
